“Usco: ¿proyecto académico surcolombiano?
Señora Directora
Con todas las dificultades que tienen las universidades públicas, la Usco se mantiene en un honroso lugar. Siempre hay que tener en cuenta el formidable espíritu humanístico -filosófico que históricamente la han acompañado y no compararla con instituciones que gozan de mayores ingresos económicos. Considero que las universidades no fueron pensadas para competir en el marco de la feroz mercancía, sino para crear conocimiento y para impulsarlo y transformar el entorno. En esto, nadie puede negar el empeño y las evidencias de la Usco. Otra cosa, es la inocultable intención de quienes aspiran a que la universidad sólo sea una “embutidora” de saberes sin preocuparse del sano debate, del discurrir democrático del pais, y en fin, de que la Usco sea el faro que nos ilumine el sendero hasta encontrar una sociedad incluyente, realmente democrática y con niveles de equidad y justicia para todos y todas. A los enemigos gratuitos de la universidad, les pido que replanteen su actitud negativa y que entre todos la endilguemos en su noble propósito de cultivar conciencia colectiva. No la estigmaticen ni criminalicen a los jóvenes que sólo luchan para que su universidad no sea privatizada.

Ante la avalancha de propaganda política, nacida de la ambición de miles de personas por ocupar cargos públicos, me surge la siguiente reflexión: ¿Por qué los futuros gobernantes del Huila no acatan las normas establecidas con respecto tanto a la cantidad de dinero como de afiches, vallas, almanaques y en general de propaganda permitidos en las campañas? Acaso no son ellos mismos los que proponen en sus programas la austeridad, convertir a Neiva y a cada municipio en focos de desarrollo, en lugares limpios y con serios proyectos para el cuidado del medio ambiente, cuando son los primeros contaminantes con tanta contaminación visual y de basuras.
¿Por qué de las millonarias sumas de dinero que invierten en toda esta propaganda, no destinan una buena parte a aliviar necesidades básicas en salud, vivienda, educación, empleo, vías, alimentación y tanta postración y abandono en que se encuentra el departamento del Huila? No creen señores candidatos, que con esta actitud tan humana llegarían más al corazón de los electores, que con un desperdicio de propaganda colmada de palabras y frases en las que ya nadie cree ni logran convencer. Desde luego que serían los mismos candidatos quienes harían entrega de dinero o la obra correspondiente y estoy seguro, crecería más su popularidad.
Como es lógico, para conocer sus programas y propuestas, existen otros medios publicitarios como la radio, televisión, internet, la prensa y la misma presencia del candidato en el sector correspondiente. Publicidad que podría estar acompañada de una o dos vallas máximo por candidato, estratégicamente dispuestas por un equipo de expertos, ya que en una ciudad pequeña como Neiva y los correspondientes municipios del Huila serían insuficientes y se mostraría la cara de una ciudad y municipios limpios y civilizados y no plagados de fotos y frases desgastadas en un material que finalmente va a ensuciar las calles y a parar en las canecas de la basura. ¿O será que ya es un presagio del derroche y corrupción a los que estamos acostumbrados?
¡Qué ironía, el pueblo se muere de hambre, y el dinero en las canecas de la basura!

I find the talk about La Nación » Cartas a la Directora all a bit meaningless. Political leaders and central bankers round the planet have done everything they can to preserve failed banks, and lending that was imprudent from the onset. We will not have a real self sustaining recovery without an end to deficit spending and lots of banks going bust. I find discussion about personal finance and loans a bit meaningless. I also think the house costs have to reduce a lot even now. I mean why would you want to own a home in the US or the UK? Isn’t it much more cost effective to rent? Regards, Keenan Gentzler
